Recent Accidents & Incidents

August 10 - All three aboard a single-engine plane were rescued by passing motorists after crashing on a soccer field near West Jordan, Utah. The aircraft burst into flames shortly after the crash, which occurred during a takeoff attempt from South Valley Regional Airport.

August 8 - An Allegiant Air MD-80 made a safe emergency return landing to Capital Regional International Airport in Lansing, Michigan, after a warning light indicated and engine compression anomaly.

August 1 - A Saab Safir crashed into a warehouse shortly after departing Bremen Airport in Germany, killing both aboard. Rescue efforts were hampered by post-crash fire. No injuries were reported on the ground.

July 24 - All 116 aboard an Air Algerie MD-83 were killed after the aircraft crashed near Gao, Mali. The crash occurred shortly after the crew diverted around poor weather during a scheduled flight from Burkina Faso to Algeria. (AVSIG Discussion)

July 23 - A TransAsia Airlines ATR-72 crashed in the village of Xixi during a second landing attempt in the Penghu island chain in the Taiwan Strait between Taiwan and China, killing 48 and injuring 15, including five people on the ground. Heavy rain and wind from the aftermath of a typhoon was reported at the time of the crash.

July 17 - All 298 aboard an Air Malaysia B777 bound for Kuala Lumpur from Amsterdam were killed after the aircraft was struck by a surface-to-air missile over a war zone near the Russia-Ukraine border. (AVSIG Discussion)

July 11 - The pilot of a Mooney M20M was killed and his passenger critically injured after the aircraft struck a house and burst into flames shortly after takeoff from Greenwood Municipal Airport in Indiana. Witnesses at the airport reported seeing the aircraft smoking during takeoff. No injuries were reported on the ground.

June 30 - All three aboard a single-engine plane were killed after crashing shortly after takeoff from Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport north of Denver. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft turn back toward the airport before crashing into a stand of trees. (AVSIG Discussion)
